Michelle Obama Fights Childhood Obesity

In this speech delivered by Michelle Obama in February 2014, the then-first lady emphasizes the necessity of keeping our children healthy by feeding them nutritious foods and a balanced diet. She equates the grumbling that may come along with this diet adjustment to the way that children don’t want to have shots or brush their teeth, yet we make them do it anyway because it is in their best interest. She also talks about the way these healthy habits can be effectively instilled into the school system so children can learn about nutrition at a young age, especially if they aren’t getting that knowledge at home.

According to a study published early in 2014, obesity rates in children have declined in the past decade. While obesity rates in adults have remained relatively stagnant, children between the ages of 2 and 5 years old have experienced a significant decrease in obesity at a national level. This could mean that we are gearing up toward the first generation in years that will be less heavy than their parents. Good to see some things are looking up for he future of our nation!

After that, you are put into the action. You are protesting and the police arrest you for protesting. Then they make you answer some yes or no questions. But every time, you answer no, your character spills red blood. Eventually, you get out of jail and decide that you have to run away.  I highly recommend everyone to play this game. There was a part which I struggled a lot. In the Sorting according to origin here is the solution.

An Analysis of My Journey

Through this series of blog posts, I wanted to create a platform in which I could inform society about mass incarceration and its implications by making the subject easily relatable and easily understandable. I have found that adding humor or sarcasm to my writing has a positive effect on the quality of my blog. Interaction between blog posts has allowed room for healthy debate amongst ourselves and has created an outlet in which bloggers can receive valuable feedback.

Speaking of informing society, my blog posts were mainly consisted of posts about mass incarceration in the United States. I wrote about this topic because it interested me and I perceived it as an issue, that is often surpassed by other issues that have more publicity. Mass incarceration simply is not receiving the attention that it deserves and as a society, we all need to become more vocalized in order to press the issue. Through countless research, I have realized the struggles that inmates have faced and the issues that mass incarceration can have on prison populations, modern society, and the economy. I implemented a way in which this topic can reflect my own educational goals by writing an analysis post about the healthcare system within prisons. I want to pursue a career in the medical field and wrote my analysis post in order to express the degradation of healthcare in prisons as the populations within them are increasing. This issue needs to be resolved quickly and effectively in order to put an end to the injustice that mass incarceration is having on prisons and the communities surrounding them.

This was my first time ever blogging a topic that I was interested about. Blogging entails a very different style of writing as compared to the usual MLA or APA format that is required for most high school and college courses. The most difficult task in this assignment was revising and editing each post, because of my lack of experience in styles and methods used within blogs. I often reverted back to writing traditional research essay format, rather than a blog format at times. I’m not sure if I would have ever created a blog if I was not required to for a class,  but I am glad I did!

Throughout this assignment, I was also given the opportunity to read some of my fellow classmates’ blogs that pertained to a topic of their interest. It was interesting and enlightening to witness several different accounts and perspectives of what other people were blogging about. Through this process, I have realized that not everyone has the same opinion and it is inevitable that controversy will occur, no matter what topic it is. Through commenting and receiving feedback from fellow bloggers, I am further inclined to improve my writing and to support whatever argument I create with the strongest evidence possible.

Shout out 3: Speaker

Allow me to introduce Speaker, and advocate for assisting refugees in the Refugee Crisis. He spends some of his free time visiting local refugee homes and getting to know the people there. All of the refugees he has spoken to share something in common, the simply want a safe environment for their families and to obtain an education. Speaker discusses the immigration ban that Trump’s Executive Order fulfilled and how he believes that it will be unsuccessful, which turned out to be true. In order to resolve the refugee crisis, it is important to understand the process that they go through and why the became refugees in the first place. It is a very sensitive subject to some people, but Speaker does a great job of explaining it!

Until next time,

Shoutout to ᎤᏬᏗᎨ

ᎤᏬᏗᎨ is a blogger that is worth visiting. She talks about the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians government and how recently their Principal Chief, Patrick Lambert, could be impeachment. Native Americans are one of the most neglected minorities in America. Many America citizens have no clue on Native Americans and only know them off of the history books. ᎤᏬᏗᎨ reminds the readers about current issues the Cherokee are witnessing and how important they are for the Cherokee. Also, she is trying to explain a very complex problem, at a time where the common citizen does not know that the Cherokee have their own government. I highly recommend reading her blog.

Shootout to BradandBougiee

BradandBougiee is a very good blogger. He focuses how the American prison system is not working well. He believes and thoroughly explains that Mandatory Minimums, judges will give the same punishment for everyone who committed the same crime, the healthcare system in prison, and the funding of prisons needs reforms. Without these reforms, BradandBougiee believes that the prisons will grow and increase the tax rate for normal citizens. I strongly urge you to read his blog. Prisons are one of the topics that people ignore but it affects everyone. BradandBougiee does a good job of explaining the prison system and the problems it has.
